Hello Doctor,
I’m a 27-year-old male, and about six months ago, I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. My dentist told me that the teeth were impacted and rubbing against the ligament in my jaw. As a result, my ligaments became loose, and my jaw is not aligned properly. I’ve been hearing a clicking sound whenever I open or close my jaw. After an X-ray, no TMJ or other abnormalities were found. Additionally, I’ve been experiencing tightness in my neck on the right side. My doctor mentioned that it could take around six months for my jaw to realign after the wisdom teeth removal. I want to know how much longer it will take for my jaw to get back into position and whether the neck tightness is related to this. Also, when should I expect that to resolve?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Based on the symptoms you’ve described, it’s possible that you might be experiencing myofascial pain, which is a condition where the muscles around the jaw and neck become tight and sore. This can happen due to jaw misalignment, especially following wisdom teeth extraction. However, I would recommend scheduling a consultation for a more thorough examination to assess the alignment and any associated muscle tension. This will help determine the best course of treatment for your jaw and neck discomfort.
Thanks
