Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I received a call this morning from a radiologist stating that on my CT scan, my IUD was not in the correct place. The provider who placed it no longer works for the hospital system. I called the clinic and explained the situation, but they would not let me speak with a nurse or a provider. This is a huge hospital system, and they said the soonest they can get me in is the last day of July. My question is, is it safe to wait that long for an appointment? I do have some abdominal cramping, but it is not severe. The IUD was placed 6 months ago.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Sorry for the situation you are in. Of course, leaving the IUD in the correct position inside the uterus until the end of July is not safe and puts you at risk of getting pregnant. If pregnancy were to occur, it might be outside the womb, resulting in an ectopic pregnancy with all its complications. Therefore, it is not safe to wait a long time for an appointment

Thanks
