Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My mom was diagnosed with malaria and typhoid in November, and she took Laris (antimalarial) and amoxicillin as treatment. The symptoms went away, but since late December, she's been feeling very weak, having night fevers, and lacking appetite. However, the usual malaria symptoms, like bitter taste, headache, and tiredness, are not present this time, which is confusing her. Could you help us understand what's going on?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s possible that your mom is experiencing a relapse of malaria, as it can sometimes occur even after treatment. I recommend repeating all relevant blood tests to check for any signs of malaria or other potential issues. It's important to rule out any other causes for her symptoms as well. Once we have the test results, we can determine the best course of action for her treatment.

Thanks
