Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Since a few months ago, I’ve been experiencing mobility problems. I also have chronic neck and wrist pains for over three years that flare up due to poor posture or extended typing. Recently, I slipped on a wet floor and did excessive physical exercises within a week, leading to severe pain and stiffness in my left leg, ankle, SI joints, calf muscles, and pelvis. My blood tests showed ANA and ACA protein B antibody positives, and the MRI of SI joints shows mild inflammation.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s likely a flare-up of the underlying inflammatory arthritis. You will need further evaluation to assess the stage of the disease, and your treatment will follow accordingly. For symptomatic relief, NSAID painkillers can be taken for about a week. If the symptoms continue to recur or worsen, immunosuppressive drugs may be necessary. Be cautious of the effects of NSAIDs, especially on kidney function and gastritis, and the dosage should be tailored to your renal function and allergic profile.

Thanks
