Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I am experiencing a recurring issue with my index finger. For the second time, it has broken out into dry, scaly blisters, causing intense itching and irritation. Can you please provide insight into what might be causing this?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It sounds like you are experiencing a recurrent dermatological condition characterized by dry, scaly blisters that cause itchiness and irritation. This could be indicative of various underlying conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, or even a fungal infection.

To accurately diagnose the root cause of your symptoms, I recommend scheduling an appointment at our clinic for a thorough examination. During the examination, we may conduct tests such as a skin biopsy or patch test, if necessary, to pinpoint the exact cause of your condition.

In the meantime, I advise against scratching the affected area, as this can exacerbate the condition or lead to secondary infections. You may also find relief by applying an over-the-counter hypoallergenic moisturizer to the affected area.

Please remember that while this advice is general in nature, it is essential to seek proper medical evaluation for an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan.

Thanks
