Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've noticed red, itchy patches all around my legs and arms. It's been persisting for about a week now, and I'm concerned. Could you please advise on what medications I should consider taking? Additionally, some of these patches have developed into scars. Is this a cause for further concern?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It sounds like you're experiencing discomfort due to red, itchy patches on your skin. These symptoms can be indicative of various underlying skin conditions, such as dermatitis, psoriasis, or even an allergic reaction. However, without conducting a physical examination, it's challenging to pinpoint the exact cause accurately.

I want to emphasize the importance of seeking professional medical guidance before initiating any treatment. Self-medicating can potentially worsen the condition or lead to unwanted side effects. Given that some of the patches have progressed into scars, it suggests that the condition may be chronic or severe, further highlighting the necessity for a thorough evaluation.

I strongly recommend scheduling an appointment at your earliest convenience to allow for a comprehensive assessment and the development of a tailored treatment plan. In the meantime, to alleviate discomfort, I suggest refraining from scratching the affected areas to prevent exacerbating the condition or introducing infections. Additionally, over-the-counter creams containing hydrocortisone may provide temporary relief from itching.

Thanks
