Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Five days after shaving my groin, testicles, and scrotum, they started to itch a lot. It's been two weeks, and it's less itchy now, but the itchiness is still present. It mostly itches when I wear something.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Itching in the groin area post-shaving can stem from various factors, such as razor irritation, ingrown hairs, or allergic reactions to shaving products.

2. Persistent itching for two weeks suggests potential inflammation or infection requiring attention.

3. Scratching the area should be avoided to prevent exacerbating skin damage, infection, or spreading to other body parts.

4. Additional tests might be necessary to confirm diagnoses, especially for infections or underlying medical issues.

5. Treatment options may involve topical creams or ointments to alleviate itching and reduce inflammation.

6. Wearing loose, breathable clothing like cotton or linen can minimize friction and irritation.

7. Consider refraining from shaving until itching and inflammation subside, and use warm water and mild soap for washing to prevent further irritation.

If the itching persists or becomes severe, or if you notice any signs of infection such as redness, swelling, or pus, it's important to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation and treatment.

Thanks
