Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have no idea how to start this, but I seem to have bumps on my areola, sometimes red, sometimes just plain, and some pale. On my actual nipple, I have yellow scabs. I can pick them off but I don’t want to as it feels really sensitive, and I’m pretty sure it scarred my nipple underneath. I’m not pregnant, I’ve never breastfed, I’m a virgin and rarely ever touch my chest. I wasn’t sure where else to go about this, I’m just beginning to get nervous. They’ve been like this as long as I can remember, and it’s a source of shame and anxiety for me, but I can’t find anything online.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your description, the bumps you’re noticing could be warts or boils, which are often caused by hair follicles in that area. It's important to have them examined by a healthcare professional to determine the exact cause and get the appropriate treatment. Additionally, performing regular breast self-examinations is a good practice to monitor any changes or concerns. I recommend scheduling an appointment with a doctor who can assess the situation and provide further guidance.

Thanks
