Hello Doctor,
I've been experiencing pain in some strands of hair on the left side of my front scalp whenever I move or comb it. This began after using an aloe vera mask last November. Since then, about 50 to 60 strands have been affected. The pain feels like a pulling sensation from the root, accompanied by a burning sensation. Additionally, I've noticed some hair loss in that area compared to the other side. I consulted a dermatologist who recommended hydrocortisone cream twice a day, but it hasn't provided relief.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
I understand the discomfort and concern you're experiencing due to scalp pain and hair loss. It's crucial to address this issue comprehensively. The symptoms you've described could stem from various causes, such as scalp dermatitis, folliculitis, neuralgia, or a reaction to the aloe vera mask. Given that the hydrocortisone cream hasn't been effective, it's imperative to reevaluate your condition.
I recommend scheduling an appointment for a thorough examination of your scalp and possibly additional diagnostic tests to pinpoint the underlying cause. In the meantime, handle your hair gently, avoiding tight hairstyles and harsh products. Opt for mild, fragrance-free shampoos and conditioners to minimize irritation.
Remember, self-treatment without a proper diagnosis can exacerbate the condition. We're here to provide the necessary guidance and support. Looking forward to assisting you further.
Thanks
