Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I accidentally injured my throat and I’m worried it might be an esophageal rupture. If it is, will the pain go away after just one day, or should I be expecting it to last longer? What should I watch out for?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.

1. Pain in the throat lasting just one day is unlikely to be caused by an esophageal rupture. An esophageal rupture is a serious condition that usually causes severe pain, difficulty swallowing, and other symptoms that worsen over time without treatment. If you had a true rupture, the pain would typically not improve quickly and would require immediate medical attention.

2. If you are experiencing mild throat pain that improves within a day, it is more likely due to a minor injury or irritation. However, if the pain worsens, you have difficulty swallowing, fever, or any other concerning symptoms, seek medical care promptly to rule out any serious issues.

Thanks
