Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I was diagnosed with emphysema a few months ago and would appreciate it if you could provide a second opinion. I have been experiencing a persistent cough and shortness of breath, particularly during exhalation. These symptoms tend to worsen when I’m exposed to certain scents.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your symptoms of persistent cough, shortness of breath, and worsening symptoms when inhaling scents, I recommend performing a spirometry test with bronchodilatation. This will help assess your lung function and determine the extent of airflow limitation.

The bronchodilatation portion of the test can provide further insights into how your lungs are responding to medication, which can help guide your treatment plan. Please follow up with your healthcare provider to schedule this test.

Thanks
