Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My son is 9 years and 2 months old. Is his dental development on track for his age, particularly with his upper lateral incisors? How much longer should it take for his primary upper lateral incisors to shed? His lower permanent lateral incisors erupted about 5 months ago.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Based on your son's age and development, everything seems to be progressing well with his upper lateral incisors.

2. It’s completely normal for primary teeth to take some time to shed, so there’s no need to worry. Just be patient, and with time, his primary upper lateral incisors will shed naturally.

3. In the meantime, make sure your child brushes regularly and properly to maintain good oral hygiene, which will support the health of his teeth and gums.

Thanks
