Hello Doctor,
I’m looking for some medical advice. My last period started on March 24, and I typically have a cycle between 27 and 33 days. I had unprotected sex between April 4 and April 14, and my period was expected around April 25. However, I’m now 6 days late. I’ve taken a few pregnancy tests: one was positive, one was invalid, but I haven’t tested again since. I’m really hoping I’m not pregnant. Lately, I’ve been experiencing ongoing cramping, mostly on the left side. The cramps are mild to moderate, but they get worse when I’m lying down. Could you help me understand what might be going on?
Hello
Thank you for reaching out Dr. Galen, Please find the below response to your query.
1. Given the situation, it’s important to be 100% sure about what’s going on. To confirm whether you’re pregnant and to rule out any complications, a combination of a transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasound might be necessary.
2. The cramping you’re experiencing could be caused by a delayed period, but it could also indicate other issues, such as an infection, ectopic pregnancy, or even the possibility of a threatened miscarriage. I strongly recommend visiting a specialist as soon as possible for further evaluation and to ensure the best care for you.
Thanks
