Hello Doctor,
What are some treatment approaches for managing COPD? Are medications like bronchodilators and corticosteroids commonly prescribed to open up airways and reduce inflammation? Are pulmonary rehabilitation programs recommended to improve lung function and provide education on managing COPD through exercises and breathing techniques?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
The treatment of COPD in patients depends on the degree of severity, the number of exacerbations, and symptoms. Typically, for mild to moderate COPD without exacerbations, treatment involves bronchodilators such as LABA and LAMA either alone or in combination. In cases of severe COPD or patients experiencing frequent exacerbations (more than one or two per year), inhaled corticosteroids are often added to bronchodilator therapy.
Thanks
