Hello Doctor,
I am still bedwetting at 18 years old. I've had this issue on and off throughout my whole life. I've tried strategies like not drinking past 7pm, using alarms, and even taking medication at one point in middle school. Is this a sign of a larger issue?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Bedwetting at 18 years old, also known as adult bedwetting or nocturnal enuresis, can be a concerning issue. While it is not uncommon, especially in individuals with underlying medical conditions, persistent bedwetting at this age may warrant further evaluation by a healthcare provider. Causes of adult bedwetting can vary and may include neurological conditions, urinary tract infections, overactive bladder, medication side effects, or structural issues like an enlarged prostate. It's positive that you have already tried strategies like monitoring fluid intake, using alarms, and medication. However, since you've already tried various strategies like limiting fluids before bed, alarms, and medication without significant improvement, it might be a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider. They can conduct a thorough evaluation to determine if there are any underlying medical or psychological factors contributing to your bedwetting. They may also recommend additional interventions or treatments tailored to your specific situation. Remember, you're not alone, and seeking help is a positive step towards finding a solution.
