Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have a large lump on my armpit that's red, continuously growing bigger, extremely painful to the point where I can't move my arm, and feels hard. What could this be, and should I see a doctor?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It sounds like you may have developed an abscess or an infected cyst in your armpit. This can be a very painful and uncomfortable condition. I strongly recommend seeking medical attention right away, as this may require incision and drainage by a medical professional. In some cases, antibiotics may also be necessary to treat the infection effectively.

In the meantime, it's essential to keep the area around the lump clean and dry. Avoid using deodorants or antiperspirants until the condition has healed to prevent further irritation.

I urge you to schedule an appointment with a healthcare professional as soon as possible to receive a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment for this condition. If you've got got any similarly questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks
