Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing excessive burping, occasional hiccups, constipation, and some mild abdominal pain for the past month. Initially, I thought my flank pains were due to a kidney infection, but after taking prescribed antibiotics, they've subsided. Could this be a digestive issue instead? If so, what steps can I take to address it?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your symptoms, which include excessive burping, occasional hiccups, constipation, and mild abdominal pain, it's possible that you are experiencing issues with your stomach and colon.

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD):This procedure examines the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum for any abnormalities. It can help diagnose conditions such as gastritis, ulcers, or inflammation.

Colonoscopy: This procedure allows for the examination of the entire colon to detect any signs of inflammation, polyps, or other abnormalities. It can help diagnose conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or colon cancer.

Treatment: Depending on the findings of the EGD and colonoscopy, treatment options may include lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, medications, or further tests and procedures.

Follow-up: It's important to follow up with your doctor after the procedures to discuss the results and determine the appropriate course of action.

Thanks
