How to Treat Warts And Verrucas?

What are Warts and Verrucas?

Warts and verrucas, both stemming from the human papillomavirus (HPV), are common skin conditions. While warts commonly emerge on hands and fingers, verrucas, a specific type of wart, affect the soles of the feet. These growths are benign but can be visually displeasing and, in the case of verrucas, lead to walking discomfort. Viral warts, caused by HPV infection, are prevalent and harmless. They can be classified based on location into cutaneous (on the skin) or mucosal (on mucous membranes).

Why Do Warts and Verrucas Occur?

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is highly contagious and can enter the body through cuts, scratches, or other weak points in the skin. Warts and verrucas are more likely to develop in individuals with a weakened immune system, as the body may struggle to eliminate the virus effectively.
