How to Treat Sepsis?

What is Sepsis?

Sepsis is a critical and potentially life-threatening condition emerging from the body's response to infection, inducing widespread inflammation. This inflammatory response initiates a cascade of changes affecting various organ systems. If not addressed, sepsis can advance to septic shock, characterized by a significant drop in blood pressure and potential organ failure. In the presence of an infection, the immune system initially engages in combat. However, there are instances when the immune system shifts its response, causing harm to healthy tissues and organs and instigating widespread inflammation throughout the body.

Why Does Sepsis Occur?

Sepsis occurs when the body's immune response to an infection becomes dysregulated. Instead of effectively fighting the infection, the immune system can release chemicals into the bloodstream that trigger widespread inflammation. In severe cases, this inflammatory response can lead to organ dysfunction.
