I am an aspiring cardiologist, with a clear track record of engagement in both clinical and academic cardiology, throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate career. During my undergraduate medical training, I undertook multiple elective rotations in clinical cardiology, across ward, clinic and catheter laboratory settings. This gave me tremendous exposure to the breadth of clinical cardiology and sparked my interest in the speciality. This motivated me to strive for excellence in my undergraduate studies, and I was ranked in the top 6% of my medical school class, enabling me to secure a cardiology training post at one of the busiest tertiary centres in eastern Egypt. After graduating in 2008, I enjoyed working as a cardiology resident then a registrar at Suez Canal University Hospital, Egypt. I garnered my experience in inpatient, outpatient and catheter laboratory cardiology care. I developed skills in percutaneous coronary interventions, resting and stress echocardiography and electrophysiology studies. I cared for patients with a wide variety of cardiac condition, both acute and chronic. After successfully gaining Membership with the Royal College of Physicians, I emigrated to the United Kingdom to pursue my ambitions of conducting clinical research. In my dedicated research time at the University of Leicester, I have enjoyed wonderful training in advanced cardiovascular imaging and aligned this with my research interest in coronary artery disease. I have engaged in two main studies: 1) using cardiac MRI to predict clinical outcome in patients with chronic total coronary artery occlusion(s), and 2) evaluating the prognosis and outcomes of patients with spontaneous coronary artery dissection using cardiac MRI. Working with a fantastic research team at Leicester, we managed to secure a BHF project grant to identify the diagnostic accuracy of cardiac MRI in heart failure patients which I am currently conducting. This allowed me to deep dive into the understanding of clinical study initiation and conduct. I am now midway through my doctoral research training in cardiovascular sciences.
