How to Treat Hyperacusis?
Medical Treatment:
Hyperacusis can be cured if it is caused by another condition, such as a migraine, head injury or Lyme disease.
If there is no clear cause, treatment may be offered to help make you less sensitive to daily sounds. It could be:
cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) - to change your way of thinking about your hyperacusis and reduce anxiety
sound therapy - to get you used to everyday sounds again, and may involve wearing earpieces that make white noise
Do the following things to ease hyperacusis
try certain relaxation techniques
do not use earplugs or muffs unless you really need to
do not avoid noisy situations, as this will make you become even more sensitive to noise
