Overview

The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) plays a crucial role in Queensland's primary healthcare sector by providing timely and patient-centered ambulance services. As part of Queensland Health, the QAS operates statewide and is responsible for delivering various pre-hospital ambulance response services, emergency and non-emergency patient care, ambulance transport between facilities, casualty room services, and planning and coordination during multi-casualty incidents and disasters.

With 302 response locations, the QAS is structured into North Queensland and South Queensland, comprising eight geographical regions and 17 districts aligned with the State's Hospital and Health Services (HHSs). The organizational framework includes eight Operations Centres (OpCens), including the South East Queensland Patient Transport Service OpCen. These OpCens handle emergency call taking, operational deployment, dispatch, and coordination of non-urgent patient transport services. Furthermore, the QAS collaborates with approximately 150 Local Ambulance Committees (LACs) throughout the state. The members of these committees volunteer their time to support the local ambulance service.

I was involved in a hit and run head on collision on the corner of Wynnum Road and the Gateway. I don't know the names of the staff members who were on but just wanted to send my thanks for their care and professionalism. It was a traumatic experience and the paramedic and student paramedic who were taking care of me were very professional and caring. Thank you.

we requested an ambulance for my son. We've been worried about long delays and catastrophic stories in the media surrounding the performance of the QAS so we were prepared to wait for hours and assisting our son the best as we can. Within 30 minutes paramedics Joel and Chris arrived on ambulance 5164. What a couple of friendly, caring and professional people. They did a thorough initial exam of the issue and within 30 minutes my son was in the good care of the Emergency ward at the RBWH. We were absolutely impressed. Many thanks!

My partner recently called an ambulance for me at 4:30am on a Saturday morning. Jeremy and his partner arrived and couldn’t have been better. They dropped me off at the Mater and came back to check how I was going before leaving. It was great how much these 2 enjoyed their job!

I came off my bike on Hargrave Street, West End on Sunday morning, 12th June. I would like to thank the wonderful paramedics Chris and Dave for all their care & concern looking after me! I was in excruciating pain as I have broken my collarbone. They were so gentle with their care & they continued to keep me calm while we waited at the hospital! I don't know if the words 'Thank you' come close to how grateful I am for having Chris & Dave come to my rescue!
