Designated as a level three institution, Kempsey District Hospital features 81 beds and accommodates a level four 24-hour Emergency Department. Presenting a varied range of specialized services, the hospital covers high dependency, general medicine, surgical day procedures, obstetrics, substance abuse, mental health, renal dialysis, and rehabilitation.

In addition to these particular services, Kempsey District Hospital delivers comprehensive healthcare assistance through physiotherapy, dietetics, social work, occupational therapy, and Aboriginal health services. The maternity unit, doctors and midwives here are nothing short of amazing. We had a great experience delivering our first child here in 2023 and feel lucky to have such great services in the shire without the need to travel to Coffs or Port. Highly personalised and professional care with exceptional follow up and standards of PP care. Would recommend!

Attended here in am on Thursday 21 Sep with severe abdominal pain and receptionist was friendly, helpfu, patientl and efficient. Triage nurse was the same and gave me 2 panadol for pain. It was very busy and the ED worked efficiently. Got to see Dr Pragati Babaria, who was wonderful! She was so kind, gentle, communicated well, thorough, sought blood tests/CT scan etc to get a diagnosis. Needed to be booked in, so after a few details were ironed out, the process commenced for me to be booked in & transferred to Port Macquarie hospita (when a bed became available). Port Mac have a surgical team and Kempsey doesn't, which is sad for those that need this service locally. Later, after further consultation between the 2 teams, it was decided I could go home with strong antibiotics. Very grateful for the whole team in the ED who took care of me....thank you so, so much. Great experience for my husband and I, under the painful circumstances.

Just went into the emergency with my young daughter as she was unwell and we aren’t from around here at all. The triage nurse, administration lady and the doctor tonight all couldn’t have done enough for my daughter! Gave her things to distract her and all of these ladies were so lovely! Completely different from the hospital where we are from! Absolutely amazing every single one of them!

I honestly can’t thank the maternity ward staff and doctors enough. The care and service they provided myself and my partner with the pre birth, birth and after birth has been beyond my expectations. Grateful to have such an amazing hospital at my fingertips.
