Comprising six municipalities, which include the City of Baraboo, the Village of West Baraboo, and the townships of Baraboo, Greenfield, and Fairfield, BAFED has a substantial impact on the community through its provision of professional emergency response, prevention, and public education. They uphold the values of Integrity, Mastery, Professionalism, Accountability, Camaraderie, Transparency, and Safety. Their Technical Response Team, BDEMS, functions from the main station located in the City of Baraboo, which is situated in rural Sauk County, Wisconsin, about an hour's drive north of Madison. Sauk County is home to a population of 61,086 residents.
Despite the Baraboo EMS Response District serving around 18,500 residents, the area witnessed a significant increase in population, with over 100,000 people arriving due to the flourishing tourism industry in the nearby Dells-Delton and Devils Lake areas. Moreover, BAFED provides rope rescue services to the State Parks and recreational areas in the vicinity, where a multitude of cliffs and hiking trails draw outdoor enthusiasts. A diverse team of part-time and full-time staff, comprising Firefighters, EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, Paramedics, and Critical Care Paramedics, is responsible for delivering all of these vital services.
I was the gentleman who fell from the step trail balance rock at Devil's Lake State Park on July 3, 2021. I would like to thank you for your professionalism, heroism, and the physical prowess of the rock climbing rescue unit. God bless all of you and please stay safe.
