How to Treat Pityriasis Rosea?

Medical Treatment:
  • Treatment is not needed for pityriasis rosea unless you feel discomfort and itching. It clears up without treatment within 12 weeks
Pityriasis rosea treatments may include:
  • Antihistamines - if you are having trouble sleeping because of the itching, it will make you feel sleepy, such as hydroxyzine or chlorphenamine
  • Steroid creams or ointments (such as hydrocortisone and betamethasone cream)
  • Emollients - creams that moisturize and soothe the skin; some emollients can be used as soap (because normal soap can irritate the rash)
  • UVB light therapy - if other treatments do not work, UVB light therapy may be referred
